SUSTAINABLE DESIGN PROJECT
Hopeful Horizons will be a place of serenity and refuge for those experiencing homelessness. We aim to create a shelter that not only provides immediate relief but also contributes to a healthier planet for future generations. Taking into consideration the protection of sensitive sites, thermal bridging, heat island effect, advanced insulation, airtight construction, heat recovery systems, passive house design, and both LEED and WELL strategies, we strive to produce optimal living conditions while reducing our ecological footprint. Our design includes all necessary staff zones such as individual counselling offices. We have included multiple spaces throughout the centre that can be utilized by the residents how they choose. The open concept common area is designed to be easily transformed to fit a variety of activities and events planned by the Centre. Creating a space that promotes mental and physical health and implementing design strategies that enhance air quality and temperature control, as well as access to natural light, demonstrates our commitment to environmental relief, as well as the well-being of any residents occupying the space.
